We suggest a perfect 10-day holiday itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Cape Town. Classic Villas can help arrange your airport transfer (on request) and meet you at self-catering accommodation in Sea Point, where we will explain everything you need to know about your upmarket holiday rental. Spend the day at leisure, taking in the sights on the Sea Point Promenade and dining locally at one of the famous Sea Point restaurants such as the ever-popular La Perla.
Day 2: It is time to explore the V&A Waterfront, within easy reach from your Sea Point holiday accommodation. Be prepared to shop and be entertained. Your family will love the Two Oceans Aquarium. Take a harbour boat tour and be overwhelmed by the views of Table Mountain from Table Bay. Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner at different restaurants all within easy walking distance at the V&A Waterfront.
Day 3: Sightseeing is at the order of the day. Purchase tickets for City Sightseeing's hop-on hop-off bus and take in all the attractions of the Mother City and Cape Peninsula in your own time. Choose from City Sightseeing's Red City Tour, Blue Mini Peninsula Tour, Yellow Downtown Tour or the Purple Wine Tour for different experiences around the Peninsula.
Day 4: Beach day has arrived. Head over to one of Clifton's four beautiful beaches and stick your toes in the white sand while relaxing and soaking up the sun for the day.
Day 5: A West Coast tour is on the agenda. Leave early to explore the West Coast. Spring flowers during September make the drive up to the West Coast National Park a memorable experience. Have lunch in the interesting town of Paternoster before heading back to your Sea Point accommodation in Cape Town.
Day 6: Time to explore the new Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, which recently opened its doors in Cape Town. The biggest of its kind in Africa, the museum offers innovative architecture and interactive installations that will appeal to the whole family. After getting your fill of all things cultural, Table Mountain beckons. The fit and brave can climb up the mountain, but you can also take the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway all the way to the top to marvel at the best Cape Peninsula views.
Day 7: What is a holiday without sufficient rest and relaxation? Drive along the Atlantic Seaboard to Camps Bay and enjoy the day between the beach, cafes and restaurants lining Victoria Road. Stay for sundowners and enjoy the sunset views over the ocean. Experience local talent by watching a theatre production at the quaint Theatre on the Bay.
Day 8: Head South to Cape Point and explore the Cape of Good Hope, which forms part of Table Mountain National Park. Fun things to do include the Flying Dutchman Funicular and dining at the Two Oceans Restaurant with its spectacular ocean views. From here, drive towards Simon's Town and introduce your family to the colony of African penguins that you will find at Boulder's Beach. If you still have time to explore, The Scratch Patch in Simon's Town is a wonderful activity for children. Be sure to stop off in Kalk Bay to browse through the quaint shops.
Day 9: Take a Cape Winelands tour to taste award-winning South African wines and explore the countryside. Wineries around Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Somerset West are all within an easy hour's drive from Cape Town and most offer, in addition to wine tasting, delicious lunches too.
Day 10: While this is the last day to buy curios and keepsakes, start the day on the Promenade and enjoy the sights and smells of lovely Cape Town and the roaring ocean. Then head into town to browse through Greenmarket Square for your last minute shopping. Explore Long Street's interesting shops and pop over to De Waterkant for some more last minute shopping. If you have forgotten anything, the V&A Waterfront with its more than 4 000 retailers should be your final stop for the day.
