A few days I ago I had the pleasure of attending a very friend’s birthday at Spice Route, where I experienced not only specular weather but great food and wine.
The Views are unbelievable and truly breathtaking! We had lunch under a beautiful large oak tree at the Spice Route Restaurant which can be found at the beginning of the “route”.
This is considered the flagship of the Spice Route, and I have every reason to believe so.
The menu is tastefully selected with beautiful dishes using ingredients produced on the estate. I had the mussels for lunch and traditionally made with white wine, but was made with the beer that is crafted on the estate! This was served with lemon mayonnaise and finger thin chips! – Was to die for!
After lunch, we ended up on the lawn overlooking the Paarl Valley, where we enjoyed the shade from all the trees and had good long chats! Very easy to lose track of time and forget about the world beyond the hills and vineyards! Sunscreen would have been a lifesaver as we all got a little sun-kissed!
There are so many activities to choose from, that it is great for the whole family to pile into the car and head on down to The Spice Route for the day, biltong and beer shop for the guys, wine and chocolate tasting for the ladies (and sophisticated men) and the ice- cream parlour for the kids!
A true foodies paradise! With 3 posts for lunch, I am sure there is something for everyone.
