Wilderness is a lovely seaside town along the Garden Route directly on the Touws River Lagoon. It is well-known for its beautiful beaches, picturesque surroundings and many places from which to watch the whales and dolphins.
Wilderness is a gorgeous holiday resort with an abundance of rivers and lakes, as well as offering travellers loads of peace and tranquillity.
It offers excellent viewpoints with breath-taking scenery that includes lush green forests, clear blue lakes, rugged mountains, an extended coastline and Dolphin’s Point, which is a great place to view the dolphins and whales passing by. Every year Southern Right whales migrate to the Western Cape, so they can calve and nurse their young. During June and November the whales can be as close to the shore as a few metres, which provides excellent whale watching opportunities to holidaymakers.
Wilderness National Park is situated in the heart of the Garden Route. It boasts a combination of rivers, lakes, creeks and beaches. Visitors can follow one of the nature trails winding through the thick forest or spend some time at the bird hide – during spring time the entire area is covered with an assortment of multi-coloured flowers just starting to blossom.
Wilderness Beach is a safe, unspoilt area with magnificent surroundings. The golden sand stretches on for kilometres and it’s a good spot to do some whale and dolphin watching.
Wilderness is not just an area filled with natural beauty; it is also a sensational playground for both young and old.
